March is Women's History Month Learn about inspiring women from history and today with these Picture Books and Activities.

March 3 World Wildlife Day is a global celebration that raises awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and biodiversity. The day highlights the need to protect endangered species and their habitats. Browse resources & activities.​

March 14 Holi Join co-author Ajanta of Let's Celebrate Holi! for an engaging and interactive introduction to Holi - India's Festival of Colors. ​

​Storytime Read-Along (approx. 15 minutes)


March 16-22 World Folktales and Fables Week* is held each year during the third week of March to encourage exploration of the lessons learned from folk tales, fables, myths, and legends from around the world. The tales vary from culture to culture but often share common morals, themes, and characters.

*Pairs great with World Storytelling Day on March 20.


March 20 World Storytelling Day

​Storytelling and Cultural Traditions Storytelling is as old as culture. Many societies have long-established storytelling traditions. The stories, and performances thereof, function to entertain as well as educate. -National Geographic Leveled Article (choose Grade 3-6)

​Storytelling: Oral Traditions Students discuss what makes a good story, look at the oral tradition of storytelling, and compare and contrast stories from two different cultural traditions. -PBS


March 21 World Poetry Day

March 21 International Day of Happiness Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, this day is for raising awareness about the importance of happiness in our lives.

  • Check out the monthly calendars from Action for Happiness that are packed with simple everyday actions to make happiness a habit - for any age. Browse resources for creating more happiness for yourself and others. -Action for Happiness
  • View a list of the happiest countries in 2024. -CNN
  • Discover Bhutan - an Asian country that measures happiness through its Gross National Happiness (GNH) index. The government uses it to create policies that improve societal well-being.
