Go Global in February

New Country Profile Page, Book Reviews & Activities, Black History Month, Rosa Parks Day, World Read Aloud Day, Winter Olympics, Chinese New Year, Ramadan, International Mother Language Day

I’m holding Minnesota close today - especially Minneapolis - as communities grieve and ask hard questions after the killing of Renee Good and Alex Pretti and the unrest that’s followed.

Amanda Gorman shared this beautiful tribute poem, “For Alex Jeffrey Pretti” (with the verse structure inspired by the shape of Minneapolis).

May we meet this moment with compassion - for our neighbors, our students, and one another - and keep choosing the work of building safer, more humane communities.

February 4 Rosa Parks Day - a day to honor Rosa Parks and her courageous stand for civil rights.

It commemorates the moment on December 1, 1955, when Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama. This act helped spark the Montgomery Bus Boycott and became a powerful symbol of the fight for equality. Use the day to reflect on fairness, bravery, and how one person’s choices can help create change.

Lit Connection:

February 4 World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) focuses on raising awareness of the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories, as well as advocating for literacy as a human right. Info & Resources | Multicultural Book Ideas
